CEYPETCO Service Station Embilipitiya - Completed Canopy

Design & Build: CEYPETCO Fuel Service Station, Embilipitiya

GAURA Construction (Pvt) Ltd successfully delivered a complete design-and-build fuel service station for CEYPETCO (Ceylon Petroleum Corporation) in Embilipitiya, Sri Lanka. This landmark project demonstrates GAURA Construction's full-service capability - taking on design, structural engineering, steel fabrication, architectural cladding, forecourt construction, and all mechanical and electrical installations under a single contract, delivering a fully operational, brand-compliant CEYPETCO service station on time and to the highest construction standards.

The centrepiece of the project is a large-span steel portal frame canopy that provides all-weather shelter over the entire fuel forecourt. The canopy is clad with CEYPETCO's signature aluminium composite panel (ACP) fascia system in crisp white with bold red accent stripes - instantly recognisable corporate branding that gives the Embilipitiya station a professional, modern appearance in line with CEYPETCO's national station upgrade programme. The completed facility is now fully operational, serving motorists and customers across the Embilipitiya area with reliable fuel services under a striking new structure built by GAURA Construction.

Design & Structural Engineering

The CEYPETCO Embilipitiya service station was procured on a design-and-build basis, with GAURA Construction responsible for all design development, structural engineering, and construction. Our engineering team developed the full structural design for the canopy - a wide-span portal frame system engineered to cover the entire multi-bay fuel forecourt with a clean, column-minimised layout that maintains clear sightlines across the station and provides unobstructed vehicle access to all fuel dispensing positions.

The structural design was developed in close coordination with CEYPETCO's requirements and branding standards, ensuring that the column grid, canopy dimensions, and fascia geometry met the corporation's approved station layout specifications. Foundation design was based on a site-specific geotechnical assessment, with reinforced concrete pad footings designed to carry the column loads safely under all wind and dead load combinations. All structural calculations were completed by GAURA Construction's qualified structural engineers and submitted for CEYPETCO's technical approval prior to construction commencement.

Steel Canopy Structure & Fabrication

The steel canopy structure was designed and fabricated to provide a clean, large-span covered forecourt with minimal visible support columns - giving the station an open, welcoming appearance while ensuring structural performance under Sri Lanka's wind and rain loading conditions. The main portal frames span the full width of the forecourt, supported on four substantial square steel columns that rise from reinforced concrete pad foundations set within the forecourt slab.

All structural steelwork was fabricated in GAURA Construction's fabrication facility to precise engineering tolerances and treated with a multi-coat anti-corrosion paint system prior to delivery to site. The steel sections were hot-dip galvanised at connection points to provide long-term protection against the tropical climate conditions. Erection was carried out by GAURA Construction's specialist structural steel erection team using appropriate lifting equipment, with all bolted connections torqued to specification and independently checked prior to the application of cladding.

ACP Fascia Cladding & CEYPETCO Branding

The completed canopy is instantly recognisable as a CEYPETCO facility, thanks to the precision-installed aluminium composite panel (ACP) fascia cladding system that forms the distinctive red-and-white visual identity of the station. The canopy fascia is clad with high-quality ACP panels in pure white, with bold red accent stripes applied at precisely engineered intervals to replicate CEYPETCO's approved brand guidelines. The sharp, clean lines of the ACP system give the canopy a modern, premium appearance that elevates the entire station's visual quality.

The four structural columns are also fully clad with ACP panels, finished in white with a red band detail at mid-height - matching the fascia and completing the brand-unified aesthetic of the station from every angle. All ACP panels were cut and fabricated to exact tolerances using specialist panel-cutting equipment, ensuring perfectly aligned joints, consistent reveals, and sharp geometric corners throughout. The cladding system is fully sealed and weatherproofed at all joints, providing long-term protection for the structural steel beneath and a maintenance-free external finish for the client.

Forecourt & Site Works

The fuel forecourt beneath the canopy is surfaced with high-quality interlocking concrete block pavers, providing a durable, aesthetically clean surface that withstands the heavy and repetitive vehicle loading typical of a busy service station. The paved forecourt was carefully graded to ensure positive drainage to perimeter channel drains and gullies, which connect to the site's surface water drainage network designed to handle Sri Lanka's high-intensity tropical rainfall without ponding or flooding on the forecourt.

Underground services including fuel pipe runs, drainage connections, and electrical conduit systems were installed prior to forecourt paving, with all underground works pressure-tested and inspected before covering. The fuel dispensing islands were constructed with reinforced concrete bases designed to carry the fuel pump equipment and protect the underground pipe connections. Kerb details, traffic flow markings, and safety signage were installed to complete the operational forecourt layout, ensuring safe and efficient vehicle flow through the station in accordance with CEYPETCO's operational requirements.

Canopy Lighting & Electrical Services

The completed canopy is equipped with a commercial LED lighting installation providing bright, uniform illumination across the entire forecourt - essential for safe and efficient fuel station operations during evening and night hours. The canopy lights are recessed into the soffit of the roof structure, giving a clean architectural finish while delivering high levels of lux at the forecourt level. All electrical installation complies with Sri Lanka's wiring regulations and CEYPETCO's electrical standards, with a dedicated distribution board, MCB protection, and earthing systems installed to serve the full station.

External electrical services including power supply to fuel dispensers, canopy lighting circuits, signage illumination, and general site power were all installed by GAURA Construction's qualified electrical team as part of the integrated design-and-build contract. The completed electrical installation was tested, inspected, and certified prior to handover, ensuring safe and compliant operation from the first day of trading. GAURA Construction provided full as-built electrical drawings and certificates to CEYPETCO as part of the project handover documentation.
